This was our first club layout built specifically to be
taken to model railway exhibitions, and has represented us at many venues over
the past few years. It has proved to be very popular with the younger enthusiasts,
since it gives them the opportunity to drive the trains themselves, rather than
“look but don’t touch”.
It was constructed by one of our founder members, and features a pair of concentric ovals of OO gauge track, running in a fully landscaped setting.
The two tracks are each independently controlled by their own dedicated Bachmann DCC controller.
The cast of characters includes Thomas, James, Toby, Duck, Diesel, and Toby, together with Annie & Clarabel, and the Troublesome Trucks.
Also present are Harold the Helicopter, Bertie the Bus, and Byron the Bulldozer. The Fat Controller stands on the station platform, trying to maintain overall control.
At one end of the layout the Boy Scouts are enjoying camping out, whilst at the other there is a lake featuring Sodor (working) lighthouse and the local RNLI lifeboat. Sharp-eyed viewers may spot the odd rabbit or two amongst the sheep grazing around the campsite, and may even see the very rare Silver Fox!
