Ian Northcott – November 2019
It is with great regret that Silverfox announce that we have lost our long-term member and treasurer Ian Northcott.
Ian passed away at the beginning of November 2019; he will be greatly missed by the club. His passion for model railways (in particular our OO gauge layout Watkin Magna) and his love of the “Full-Size” Great Central heritage railway was well known amongst club members.
As a regular member of the ‘Wednesday crowd’ working on Watkin Magna; his contribution to the branch line extension sidings was considerable, and I for one will miss his Wednesday morning sausage rolls’ straight from the microwave.
Ian was a banker by trade; and a true gentleman of the old school. As our treasurer, we knew the club finances were always in good order. His meticulous book keeping and attention to detail will be a hard act to follow for the new treasurer.
A little while ago some of the elder members of the club decided that gaining access to the central operating area of Watkin Magna, by ducking under the baseboards, was no longer an option; so a lift-up section was built to allow members far easier access. On one fateful running session with the lift-up section in the ‘up!’ position, Ian forgot, and promptly drove the Standard Class Five engine and coaches into an airborne ballet that ended a metre below on the floor; we all laughed, luckily no lasting damage was done; although Ian was dismayed at the spectacle.
Ian was a great friend to all the members; and always looking at the positive side of life.
May you rest in peace Ian.
Malcolm Brewer – Chairman.
